One of New York City’s finest Beaux Arts chefs-d’oeuvre, the Dorilton is embellished with many fine, French details including richly profiled broken pediments with cartouches, ornamented brackets, iron balconettes and balustrades. The building is faced with red brick and features a heavily rusticated limestone base and limestone and terra-cotta detailing.
The structure is surmounted by a mansard roof. A distinguishing feature and enhancing touch are the patina-colored, pressed-steel encasements surrounding bay windows in the center of the Broadway façade which are flanked by Goddess statues at the base. The entrance to the building is grand; one enters through a limestone triumphal-like arch crowned with two cherubs and a cartouche and bordered by two eloquently decorated iron gates. Through the opening is a small courtyard that leads to the main entrance. The Dorilton features 60 residences, configured into studios and one through six-bedroom configurations that range in size from approximately 550 to 4,700 square feet. Prewar details abound, apartments feature approximately ten-foot beamed ceilings, wood moldings and decorative trim. Some apartments feature bay windows, Juliette balconies, outdoor space, Burlwood paneling and coffered ceilings and fireplaces. The two penthouses at the Dorilton are quite dramatic, but are on the smaller side. Penthouse W is approximately 1,400 square feet and is configured into five rooms that feature two bedrooms and two baths. It features mansard roof window openings, an oversized pyramidal skylight and outdoor space. Penthouse E is configured into six rooms that includes three bedrooms, two and one-half baths and is approximately 1,845 square feet with 1,500 square feet of outdoor space. The home includes an original copper and glass domed ceiling and marble fireplaces. Pros: Apartments feature beautiful prewar detail and high ceilings; close proximity to neighborhood amenities, Central Park, Riverside Park and subway transportation; stunning Beaux Arts building; 75% financing allowed; pet friendly
